Pears and elderflower liqueur are made for each other. Add in a bit of citrus, vodka, then lighten it up with soda. A lovely warm weather cocktail.
Prep Time: 5 minutes Yield: one cocktail
1/2 flesh of a ripe small pear, peeled and cut into small chunks
2 ounces vodka or light rum
1 ounce elderflower liqueur
1 ounce simple syrup
juice from 2-3 lemon wedges
4 ounces sparkling unsweetened soda
In an empty base of a cocktail shaker (or bar glass), add the flesh of 1/2 a small pear. Muddle the pear until it is frothy and broken down. Add in the vodka, elderflower liqueur, simple syrup, and lemon juice. Stir until well blended. Add the soda, and gently stir.
Pour cocktail over ice. Garnish with pear slices. I like a sugar/salt rim.
Please use a ripe pear, as we want the flesh to break down into a frothy liquid. I have messed up and used an unripe pear with awful results. Also, you don't have to peel the pear, I just prefer it that way.
Here's a fantastic muddler, the one I use. A bargain for 7 bucks!
